Piano & more An hour of music in Tring Parish Church on Sunday afternoons

4) I’ve got quite a bit of cleaning work to do!

5) Re-clothing the iron frame with new Bechstein coloured bearing cloth, and the frame bolts buffed and lacquered.

1) Taking a “rubbing” of the bass strings, the bass string maker will make a new set of strings to match exactly. Every piano is unique.

2) The piano is unstrung.

3) I found this signature on the frame- it is the signature of Henry Rogers to whom I was apprenticed! It shows that he tuned this piano in 1971, three years before I joined his piano firm.

6. The piano ready for restringing

7. Whilst waiting for the new tuning pins to arrive, I’m starting to take the action apart.
